Although it may not look like much, it is very important to have a search engine handy. Obviously, without search engines we would end up looking through each folder on our computer or browsing each web site until we find what we are looking for. If you look at Hulbee Desktop for the first time, you may say that it is a simple search engine with a good paint job. That is where you would be wrong. Its search capabilities are much stronger than those of other engines and the results will be more satisfying.

Besides a Pro version, there is also a free one available. After downloading the 14 Mb setup kit, you will have to run a standard wizard which will install the software without prompting you for too much. It is supported by operating systems from Win XP to Win 7 and it requires MS .NET Framework 3.5 or higher. Although the software itself is lightweight, you will need to have at least 500 Mb of free space on your hard drive.

If you know how to use a search engine, you will have no trouble with Hulbee Desktop. If you are looking for something specific, just type its name in a dialog box on the window's top edge and click the Search button next to it. There are three types of searches and they can be performed under separate navigation tabs, over the dialog box.

You may search for files and folders on your hard drive and set the software to look in file names or their contents, and set other parameters like how old or large the file is. These settings can be found in a column, on the left edge of the window. Hulbee Desktop can also be used to perform web searches. Besides a general search, you can also look for items which you want to buy. Just type what you are looking for under the Shopping tab and the results will only contain shopping web sites. Search results will also appear as a data cloud with related keywords.

It may sound simplistic, but there is more than meets the eye with Hulbee Desktop. Once you install and run it, the program will start indexing your files and folders, which will make your search tasks a lot faster. While indexing your computer, you will not have to wait for a progress bar or anything of the sorts. The software will do this on its own while it works as a system icon or even while you perform a search. The number of files, folders, documents, images and other types of files which have been indexed are displayed on the main area of the interface, under the Computer tab. Each time you bring up the interface, you will notice larger and larger numbers.
